Sentosa... I miss you!!!!

Ok,

I know you think i must be crazy putting such a title.

Actually, I don't miss sentosa, but miss the beach training.

But yesterday... finally.. finally finally finally... i'm back there swimming and running again.

And although we couldn't use the boards.. (all because of some ass who now made slss make us book the bloody boards thru them) we still had enough fun.

Maybe it ain't as rowdy as previously.. (cause there were only 4 of us including me) But it was a relaxing sort of fun..

Wonder are those in desaru having a blast... Heck la! haha, everywhere also the same.. =)

Hope we get the boards next week... i'm really starting to miss beach training...

Humph.. I think i actually miss training on the whole.. come to think of it.

2 more weeks

2 more weeks to my first marathon.

Am i excited? Yes and No..

Yes because, obviously, it's my first marathon!!

No because, got like some sort of teeny weeny expectation to do it within 5 hours.. and i think i'm not capable of that.

But nonetheless, it's my first marathon, so my aim is for completion.
Don't think about timing
Just aim for completion

I've been able to run 30km already.. although i got walk also.. last sun, about 30 or 31 km.. took about 3h 19min. I walked quite a fair bit also.. so i guess it's not tat bad.

Have another about 12km to go. Really very skeptical on whether can i do it in under 5.. see.. tats the reason for not believing in myself.

Ah well, anyway, tmr's my birthday! yea! Oh i'm so growing fat from eating all that cake and ice cream.. urgghhhh

yesterday eat cake, today eat cake again, tmr i'll be eating ice cream. I think the day after tmr i'll most likely be eating ice cream again. wah!!!

Really can get high like that.. haha.. but after this i shall train hard for sing bia!! so... hopefully.. haha.. i'll lose it all off.. hee..

Birthday and christmas season is really horrible... woohoo.. horribly horrible.. =)

Run update.

21km ran without socks... urghhh.. my feet are horrible, ugly, dying, tired, disgusting...

Didn't manage to run all the way though.. got walk and run and walk and run a bit..

But i still did like 2H 12mins! Which in my opinion is an improvement.. Cause i could prob do it below 2H 10mins now.. (my best timing i think is 2h 10mins so far)

wah.. actually i wonder if i continue this would i be able to hit below 2h.. wooo...hahaha

But my blisters are horrible, and i'm feeling So So So SO tired.. I need to cut down.. and stop running so much.. i think its prob killing me.. suddenly spend so much time running is quite bad.

And once again, my knee hurts damn badly. Thats the reason why i stopped actually.. dunno how la.. improve running style bah.. sian le..
Scared.. scared my knee will spoil.. i'm still young le!!!! wah lau...

Should swim more often..hehe

28km 2H56min

Want to die man... Run 28km... knee damn damn painful... wah shit... its so horrible.

I seem to run better in the rain. I can't imagine running 28km in the sun. I think i'll just totally roll over and die. Today's weather, drizzling... but doesn't affect me that much i guess. Although when the wind blows on me sometimes i feel like i'm not moving, as in I need extra energy to counter the wind force.

But i gotta give myself some credit. Can you imagine, i actually ran all the way without stopping (one toilet break) continuously for 2h 56min.. almost 3h long.. and 2 months ago, just by running 10km i felt like dying. 2 months ago, 1 hour seemed so long.. 10k seemed so long.. now i'm like doing 3 hours.. 28k!!! Gotta give myself a pat in the back man... haha

See my friends buy energy bar and gel to refuel during the race, or even during training, cause we're suppose to clock 35km... I didn't buy any, Don't want to buy le, Don't want to eat this sort of things. Was reading on runners world that i could refuel by eating gummi bears.. *eyes open wide* haha.. I don't mind.. keep a pack with me and suck on gummi bears/sweets while running. I'd rather eat that than to eat energy bar/gel.. haha.. and gummi bears seem much more fun to eat.. haha

ok, i think i might bring a small bag next week. suppose to do 30km next week.. so.. maybe i'll start eating after 21km? I also dunno. I can't read my own body.. dunno when is the breaking down point.. i mean like today, i managed to run all the way. and in a way, i can still sort of continue, just that i'll be a lot slower ya know.. super super slowly continue

oh well.. just run lo. cannot make it then stop lo.. bring gummi bears for next training lo.. hahaha

5 more weeks to marathon

Only 5 more weeks... and the max i've covered so far is about 24km!!!!

Uh oh..

Weekly runs i think i only covered about 50km. Maybe a little more than 50

Not enough right i think? die la... but i run too much also will die..

Yesterday ran about 14-15km?
Tmr, wed shall run 21km.. i hope
sat's plan is to run.. 25-28? i also not very sure (lets say 26km)
so total would be....61km..

wah siao..61km.. haha.. hmm.. guess that should be enough? i hope? or gotta clock 70km?

urghhh...
very sian... nothing interesting to post about... running so long is really a horrible thing to do... makes me wonder why the hell am i doing this.. stupid stupid stupid..

Running Posture

I ran 18km today - 1H 48min according to GW's watch

My knees hurt like hell... actually, my whole leg hurt like hell today. My knees right.. it's the outer part which hurts, dunno why, must be the way i run.

**********************************************************
Correct running form, extracted from: BUPA's Bristol Wellness Center
Head
The head should be erect, with eyes focused forward to a point on the ground about 20 to 30 metres away

Shoulders
The shoulders should be square and level. Do not round your shoulders or swing them forwards or backwards

Arms
Arms should be swinging freely but in a general forwards/backwards motion (in a tight figure of eight), not a circle or a straight line. Elbows should be bent approximately 90 degrees with forearms remaining roughly parallel to the ground

Hands
Hands are held in a relaxed fist with the thumb resting on the forefinger

Torso
The torso should be erect, with chest up and plenty of room for the diaphragm to move for proper breathing actions. Do not lean forwards, backwards or slouch, as all of these posture deviations can place a lot of stress on the lower back, interfering with proper running mechanics and possibly causing lower back injury

Hips
The hips should be square and level with no sideways movement

Legs
The leg action should be relaxed, with pendular movements and moderate knee lift

Feet
The feet should be pointed straight ahead and land directly under the hips
**********************************************************

I got no idea what my current posture is right now, but i guess i could take note of it. Hopefully it'll minimize my knee pain.

Haiz.. I dun wanna grow old and have knee problems le.

Another thing is.. my calf muscles are super super tight. Like crazy tight.. tight until can cramp. Yesterday, in the middle of the night my calf cramped up. It hurt like crazy!!!! But then again, this isn't the first time and i believe a lot of people have experienced it before.

How.. I don't have enough salt in my body is it? Is that the reason? Probably it really is my diet.. Lose too much potassium, sodium, calcium & magnesium. That's what i was told anyway. So gotta eat foods to replace these items. Although i'm not sure what..

lazy to go search... some other day...

A foldable Board???

Found this Brand - ULI Boards (The Ultimate Travel Board)

It's actually foldable! It's so tempting to get one, because one of my main concerns in getting a board is that i can't transport it everywhere

But wonder whether is it good. Probably not.. it's inflatable le.. like a float like that.. so wierd isn't it?

Anyway this is the link to it ULI Boards!!!

Still, the photos on the site shows the guys surfing quite cooly using this wierd inflatable board..haha

Ok it's probably not weird.. might have been there for quite a while

Then again.. this is a surfboard, not much use in Singapore.. i can only paddle here, can't surf, no waves, and i don't know how to surf either.

I wan a dophin surfcraft!!!!

Fina swimming World Championships 2007

I got to admit. The above mentioned event which was held here in Singapore yesterday was quite disastrous. In terms of lifeguards, they didn't have surfboards nor kayaks for my friends on duty to go out to sea. Instead the canoests were out there.. dunno doing what i guess. The lifeguards just stayed on the beach and walked around...

The event itself, kinda felt disorganized.
The goodie bag.. nothing inside.. and the registration fee is $60!! for a 5km swim..
What you get is a lousy quality shirt, a finisher medal, notebook, photo album, post it pad.. tat's about it

Somehow i felt robbed of my money, and i didnt even manage to complete my 5km swim cause in the middle of the swim a super heavy downpour came and they had to cancel to whole thing..

But i still got my finisher medal though, they just gave it to everyone..

Well anyway, the stormy weather stopped the whole event, so in the end we didn't get to complete our 5km.. oh well.. so sad.. too bad.. Next time though, the organizers ought to make this event a little bigger. I mean, world class swimmers are here to swim 10km.. and although it's boring to watch them swim 10km, there ought to be carnivals and stuff right.. should make it a bigger event? Humph, then again, maybe i don't know the things behind the scenes.. so.. don't complain so much ah..

Lifesaving???

For all you noobies out there. Lifesaving is not about saving lives only. We have competitions also. Yes! Competitions...

you'll probably by saying "what? what do you all compete in? see who can save the victim the fastest?"

FYI, don't be so narrow minded. Well, i guess you could say we sort of save victims.. fake victims that is (manikins) in a way, but that is like less than half of the competition events. Besides the events with manikins (which by the way is totally not easy), there are beach events... running, ski, surfboard, tube rescues, rescue boats

Surf lifesaving, as they term it, originated in australia.. obviously.. hahaha.. since it's such a big thing there, but it isn't as big compared to the rest of the world. Too bad it isn't recognized widely enough. But then again, since it's not TAT recognized, then it's not TAT competitive... which is kinda good... in a way, and kinda not good... in another way.

ok enough of this boring stuff. Go watch the youtube videos and get inspired.. haha.

It's funny how i'm so into it right now. I guess its probably due to watching the surf paddling which caught my attention, and now i really totally wanna get my own board... Yes! i am having serious thoughts on this.. but.. constraints constraints constraints.. no place to store, no car to transport around, and of course, i need the money to buy it

Oh well, i guess in a few years time i hope. I wanna board... even though my boarding kinda sucks now... but i can use the board to paddle also... so it doesn't matter... I wanna board and paddle out into the open ocean and just lie there listening to the watery sound without any disturbance of whatsoever. Away from all the troubles in life, away from all the hustle and bustle city life... aiy...

One day.. one day i tell ya.. maybe i could move to hawaii or australia and lead the laid back lifestyle and just do some paddling or swimming or running when i feel like it....

Introduction

Hopefully i'll have the time and energy to bother to write and update this continuously.

Still wondering what i ought to actually write inside here.

Should i put training timings? Maybe once in a while.. then again maybe not.. too boring..

But i'm not gonna just put run and swim stuff... I'm gonna throw in lifesaving stuff also.... Hmm.. it'll probably be more about lifesaving run and swim stuff.. haha

ok for now.. these are my events i'm training for till the end of this year:
1) fuji xerox open water swim (5km) 7th OctFuji Xerox Singapore open water swim 2007
2) standard chartered marathon (42km) 2nd Dec Standard chartered marathon

You must be thinking i'm crazy.. ahh.. so be it.. hahaha
